MATCH REPORT 11/02/10
Game: NANNAS v’s ozspurs
Result 1 : 4
TEAM: JH , CG, AW , RH(MOM),CB , TW 1 (MOM), TH
Once again the Nannas can hold their heads up. Sure it’s not a victory hold, it’s not one of those weeks when you hold your head with both hands and really work up some serious friction. But it is a hold to be proud of, a single handed hold, maybe with the thumb free, maybe not. A hold that’s firm and purposeful and an action that has rhythm and spirit, a good honest hold.
That’s how I’ve found myself on several occasions this week, in a good honest hold, nothing flamboyent, no need for external stimulus but nothing fancy either. And that’s the problem. Next week I want to hold my head with a vigour that can only be found from a Nanna victory. It’s all very well saying that we played proudly, played well and were unlucky but losers don’t win trophy’s and that’s why we’re there.
It’s not that we need to do anything new. just do the things that we’re doing better. Chase harder, mark tighter and pass early – I can’t say it often enough – Pass early, pass early pass early pass early pass early.

Game: NANNAS v’s Pornstars
Result 6 : 7 ?
TEAM: JH , CG 1, AW , RH 3 (MOM),CB 1 , TK, TW 1
Yes we lost, and that’s how it will stand in the scoresheets for eternity but this was a fit and agile Nanna outfit that took the game by the horns and that’s how we wish to be remembered.
This was a big step up for the Nans whp have been struggling with the heat and general lack of talent for several weeks now. There was cohesion, there was vision and there was determination, in short we had great cohvisination, and that’s what we needed. We created chances in front of goal and we punished mistakes at the back. We were unlucky not to go further in front, squandering a couple of easy opportunities.
At the back things tightened up, but they could tighten further still, its the old “mark your man” routine that let us down and our lack of drive post half time.
This game can be seen as a marker in the season, we turned around some bad form and built a platform from which to develop. The next quarter looks good for an increased revenue stream with off shore alliances proving resilient to the battering handed down by the European situation. If monetary funds can hold off from reporting on prospective capital acquisitions we can see real opportunities in the “winning” sector.
Takeshi took us to a favourite old haunt – prudence – and I reminisced about the night a stripper removed my pants upstairs.

GAME Nannas versus D W S Fc
RESULT n 1 : D W S Fc 6? maybe
PLAYERS CG, JH 1, TK, AW, RH (mom)
Once again it was a very tight first half, and the Nannas played well. Defence was fine, offence was coming together. Big Jim made his presence felt in the box, and we all know the smile that that produces.
Technically we began to put things together, second week runnning for the tight five and we were finding out groove, slowly, things were happening.
Then a little thing that I like to call “the second half” reared its ugly head and for the second week running the tight five slowed down just a touch. Infact it became a performance piece as the Nans attempted to outdo each other in lack of movement. It’s a very clever mind game, the only problem was that the opposition wasn’t clever enough to see it. If we had been playing a group of really clued up guys we would have screwed with their heads real bad. Unfortunately the dullards in the opposition just saw it as unfit sweaty men gasping for air and ran around us in a completely uncivilised manner.
It’s all about fitness for the next few weeks, I’ve downloaded the complete first season of Jane Fonda Work Out, oohh she’s hot, she’s real hot, and she sweats, she sweats like a man sweats, great rivers of sweat pooling in those artificial fibres. Take a swim gentlemen, dive in and swim with me, swim to the future.

TH, RH, CB, DC, JH, AW, TW, TK
The 10:40 forfeit – what is that? no notification? That is rude is what that is.
What is ruder is that we then played the guys that are bored with playng for the Brazilian national side due to an overwhelming amount of talent.
It was ugly in the first half when they played with all 5 of their team, the second half could be seen as uglier still due to their reluctance to field the full quoter. I don’t think the Nannas have ever lost a half to a four man side but it has to happen to everyone at some stage and it feels like we were due.
There was a distinct lack of accountability in the Nannas defense and that is not what you want going into a finals campaign against the angriest group of young men ever to kick a ball.
It sets up a very interesting Nannas-intra-match to build us up for the finals. There are positions on the line and each nanna must perform to his/her own best to guarantee a spot in the finals’ seven (note use of apostraphe).

5-4 loss to baby faced assasins
RH(MOM)1 CB2 TW1 JH AW CG
If there’s such a thing as a good loss then this was a real ripper.
At one point in this game we were down 5-1 or maybe 5-2 and it was a real steep mountain in front of us. The Nanna Mattahorn.
Everyone knows that a mountaineer needs a rope and thats where the long legs of Jim Hannan come in to play, as a unit we grappled on those long twisted shanks of hemp and they held firm. Rope is useless without a carabina and nobody locks around jims limbs like chassey does, he was the stainless steel climbers friend that we all depended on. Andy Wong took the role of the chocolate bar, the back pocket man, one nibble and energy is restored. The axe at the core of all climbs bore the trademark ‘Weis’ and the gloves encircling that axes shaft had Chris Gill written all over them. So the tools wereall there and the climb was progressing at a great rate.
I took the humble role of the climbers penis for a true mountaineer climbs from his pants and so it is I that must take the brunt of the loss for if the pants of a climber cannot rise to the heights of greatness then the mountain shall win, and win it did.

It is a little known proverb amongst the wisest amongst us that states.
“When facing a steam-roller it can be best to lie down and get flattened”
The Nannas took this proverb and ran with it – almost to a man. It is possible that the coach didn’t know we were playing to this game plan as his post match spray left a lasting impression on our already flattened forms. We left the court somewhat like a series of brass rubbings – paper thin with the marks of those who have been before.
We didn’t go without chances – the return of big Chros Gill in goal did lead to some header possibilities but unfortunately the striking head was always misdirected. Thomas was strong as ever in defence, saving just enough energy spray his fellow Nannas with expletives post-match. They, in my opinion were the only highlights of a lack-lustre display. Leaving us in need of a big win at the last hurdle.

Nannas win 4-1

CB,RH MOM
It’s a win and a win it had to be, as Los Pitufos have the agility of pizza dough and the ball skills of a fat mans arse.
The most perplexing thing is that Los Pitufos won the first half!
The second half however was a much grander affair and, much like last week, the Nannas really pulled together as only a team of nannas can. Beautiful manouvres through the middle, speed on the wing and a back door man that has claimed that entry as his own.
The fact that the Mom is tied is testimont to the unity for which the Nanna bretherin performed. It could easily have been an eight way tie for MOM and perhaps that would have been fairest.
As I sit here in a darkened theatre, scanning the forms of scantily clad dancers parading their wears for my pleasure it is hard to not think of my team mates and how the symmetry of their movement could easily be described as choreography. If we were to simply purchase leotards and the services of an avant garde soundsmith we too could sell ourselves as art. But I digress.

When I was about five years old I found a pool of water in the driveway of our house and in that pool was a thin layer of diesel. Trapped within that thin layer was a rainbow – I thought to myself “Now I know what beauty is”.
At the age of fourteen or maybe fifteen Paulette Dunne finally undid the last button on her school blouse in her mothers sewing room and revealed a section of flesh that I had never before witnessed off the printed page. “Ahhhh” I thought, ” now I know what beauty is”.
Beauty stayed relatively unchanged for many years until I met my lovely wife and then agian unchanged until the birth of my daughters – “Surely” I thought, “now I truly know beauty and I can die happy”.
But I was wrong. The fourth of December 2008 will go down and history as the day that Beauty was finally laid to rest. Seven brown men pulsating in unison to the beat of just one drum – and what a drum.
What a beautiful drum.
The Nanna drum of beauty.

14-0 vs Spartans
CG(gk), TW(2), AW, RH(4), DC(3), JH(4)
MOM: rh
“No”
I hear you say – then
“Really?”
And I respond
“oh yes, indeed”.
Fourteen times did the ball cross the Spartan goal line – FOURTEEN. And how many passed the fortress that is Christopher Gill? zero. ZERO. That makes the scoreline for all you number-crunchers, 14-0, the biggest winning margin ever (unconfirmed).
Powerful, yes, Skillful, you bet, fast, strong and even deft. But most of all the word that comes to mind is UNITED. It was a TEAM that scored 14 goals on this fateful night, sure some Nannas kicked more goals than others but in reality every Nanna was firmly gripping the thigh of that scoring leg and swinging it together.
I’ll start from the back were Gilla took the term “clean sheet” to a new level, not a spot on that sheet, not even a hint of perspiration, no hairs, the bed remained in such a condition that one would claim it hadn’t been used. That’s where they’d be wrong, for Gilla used that bed like no other man before him. Firing balls in all directions with placement and timing that brought a tear to my arse eye. Then saving himself for the very end and unleashing a punishing set piece from close range to register on the score sheet. His use of the long throw was superlative, with I, the captain merely there to polish it through the opening with a gentle kiss.
“But was he alone in defense?” I hear. He certainly was not. The back door Wallmartin was a tower of strength all night. At one point Wal had ventured forward a long way – and found himself somewhere near Thomastown with no train ticket, when he heard a sound. A sound not often heard on a Thursday night it sounds like this “oooooohhhgghggghhoo”, it’s the sound of ball beginning to cross the Nanna goal line. He raised himself to his full height and opened the throttle, sending his legs into a blurred and furious whirlwind, hurtling his barely recognisable form through the suburbs at near light speed. He made it to the goal line at the same time as the ball and swept it away with such grace that the referee wept, openly.
“Well where was the rest of the defence?” you cry. Deep in the trenches is where they were. So deep that the light no longer shone and the only way to make out the oppostition was through touch and smell. There’s only one man that can play in those conditions, and that’s big Jim Hannan. Groping through the darkness with those giant hands out-stretched, those long, strong, fingers probing the depths of the opposition attack. Coming up for air occasionally to sink a long range powerhouse goal before plunging back again to the stench and the heat and the inky black that he loves and knows so well.
“What of the offence?” What indeed, 14 whats infact. Striker by name and Striker by nature, that’s what they say of Cocky Cockshank and last night was no exception – or was it? Well I dare to say it was. For last night the striker turned a new leaf, unrolled a new rug, dropped some fresh trousers and revealed a new part of himself to the Nannas. And what a beautiful part of a man to keep hidden for so long. It was a sharing caring Striker that opened himself to advances, invitations, calls from afar and answered swiftly with kindness and precision. He stepped away from the limelight and let others shine, infact he made others shine, he was the light by which we glowed.
“Can there be more?” Oh yes, for I have not yet spoken of the engine room and the Nannas had an engine named Tao last night. The thing about engines is that they’re complicated, there’s a lot of moving parts and it must simultaneously do multiple things, I’m talking about passing, tackling, shooting, yelling and running. When that engine hits optimal revs it’s seamless, all actions happen simultaneously and the resulting mass of limbs and volume create an aural and tactile feast. And when that engine unloads from halfway with precision there’s only one possible outcome – GOAL.
“What of you then?”. Well I played and am humbled by my Nannas votes but in reality I was there to finish off the good work, a polisher if you will – there to kiss the children good night and put on the kettle for your hot water bottle.
But imagine my shock when I went to the APISC ladder to find that we are not on the top of the Table -THIRD!! if you will. The second placed team have 77 goals from 5 games that’s an avverage of more than 15 goals a game. hard to believe. It’s lucky that the Nannas live for the challenge.
STATS WINTER 08
That’s right Nannas it’s Stats time and it’s been a corker of a night here at the upper management points tally. Free flowing beverages, the crowds, the hype and it was all worth it, what a cliff hanger – we’ll never do it on the coast again.
But enough about me.
It was always going to take a big man to pull the crown from a double triple-crown Striker, and that big man, a double-crown big man is big Jim Hannan, hats off to you Jimbo, worthy, worthy, worthy. MOM and Commitment – tasteful.
Cocky stands tall with a standout performance in the striker division, easily the most strikerly of the Nannas.
Although – in a twist that could see the tides turning there are three missing reports – and two of them are Cocky’s, one of them Tao’s. Upper management is still locked in a tight and fiery debate as to what punishment befits this crime.

Gillie had the fish Pie. FISH PIE.
There were two steaks and bangers on the menu. Maybe he’s pregnant.
Anyway – the game was a cracker – a real corker.
Nannas at their fighting best – we led from the start and never let it go.
Powerful, passing Nannas running from the back and following through. Including a superlative solo effort from Cocky who was on fire up front, Wal on hand at the back door to slip one in, Gilla (pre-pie) hitting the roof only once – a record I believe, Thomas Obsidian Howie rock hard behind the tight shorts of powerhouse Jim Hannan and the captain on hand to collect the tissues.
Only downside was the dodgy St Michaels Court which, unbelievably makes the Wesley court look like wembly. The surface so slippery that the reacharound became the follow-through.
Maybe it’s what we’ve all been waiting for.
Nannas on fire.
Season O8 (1)
Well Nannas it’s been along wait but upper management has finally resolved some bitter in-fighting and the much debated “missing game” has been resolved.
Feast your eyes
Much kudos to Cocky for a second triple crown – they said it could never be done, and he’s done it twice. A much deserved win, very close to big Jim Hannan in second and a sly back door run form the Walmartin in third place, brown work indeed.

I’ve seen a group of men, as equals stand up and fight with a pride that can only come from 100 percent dedication, 100 percent pain and 100 percent Browness. And when all this comes together you have the unheard of, the unholy, the unbelievable tight MOM four.
A tight MOM four is even hard to type, let alone be a part of. I can’t say it without falling to the floor in a pool of my own excrement and vomiting up blood. It’s so beautiful it’ll tear out your eyes. Deep in Nanna folklore there is talk of the “lost report” of a game never played, not lost nor won, not drawn. A game so beautiful in it’s simplicity, so complicated in its delicately woven interplay that words simply bounce off its impenetrable walls. This game that I elude to is the game that all Nannas hold deep inside them, it’s an internal battle. Rather than unleashing the volley from halfway you shoot it directly up your spine and revel in what could have been, what always will be, what drives us on.

It’s not often that the Nannas really strut their stuff and laugh in the face of a weak and pitiful opponent but that is exactly what happened on this evening of delights.
Not only did the opposition have absolutely no talent but they were ugly and quite possibly foreign or diabetics. At one point four of the opposition found themselves in the bathroom, leaving only a goalie who’d just finished her first day at school.
BUT THEY WON THE SECOND HALF !!!!!!
We should have ground them deeper in to the dust than the little bits of dust that were once bigger bits of dust but have then been ground into the dust themselves. It should have been a landslide, avalanche, romp home.

The game started with a flurry and a rush of excitement, Marek the eel in goal, slippery, elusive with sharp teeth, lungs of pure nicotine and liver stained black with short black madness.
We were excited and hot, damn hot. The flurry of opening passes was bedazzling chazzy to Weis to Wong to Hinkley, back to Chazzy to Hannan, Hannan pushes forward, to Weis to Wong, accross the face to Hinkley on the burst, he winds up from 400metres out, somewhere in the car park, his mighty legs of steel create a wind that screams through the court, followed by the remnants of a soccer ball, shredded upon impact, that ends, deflated in the back of the net.
The game went downhill from there and we played like a pack of moist towelletes, dirty ones.
The EEL held his own and earned his Nanna badge with distinction.
SEASON STATS AUTUMN/Winter 07
Yes Brown Nannas the time has come for reflection, and what a murky pool we find ourselves staring into.
You can’t fight 10 losses and a draw out of all the games that we actually played as a successful season, or can you?
We fought back in the latter half of the season and roused ourselves to the best ever organised and coldest Nanna function, and they can’t take that away from us.
Enough, I’ll let the figures speak for themselves.

I think Dead-dead lucky might be a better name for this lousy lump of no-hopers with shit for brains and personalities to match. Sure they beat us, some might say they beat us comprehensively, but there was at least six or seven minutes of the old Nannas, the Nannas we remember when we’re tucked up in bed and the wife is out of town.
We warmed our hands in the glow of the Angry Nanna heat and pushed forward with ease, not stopping to see the fallen opposition as they screamed “foul” and “you can’t do that” and “please”. We must take that six, maybe seven minutes and hold it dear, let it grow and build into a full 36 minutes of Nanna Glory.

No Gillie no TKondo no good answer to anyone pointing towards our goal and swinging their legs.
It was a meek Nanna response to an unconvincing opposition.
We started well, infact it may have been nil-all right up to the 10 minute mark. The following 3 or 4 minutes were far less flattering, it may have been a goal a minute there for a while.
On the brightside Tao showed a real flourish of Nanna spirit and finished a back heel from the reigning striker with pin point accuracy.
Much kudos to James (not Hannan) for a last minute Ringin role, especially for since it was a no-goalie ring-in debut.

It’s not often that you can hold your head up high and talk proudly of a game after losing by 6 goals but that’s exactly what this proud Nanna did. And I’d do it again, no question.
It was a tight five, and a determined tight five too
Unlucky to go down so hard, early luck was against us as the ball bounced kindly for the opposition, at least three lucky, pussy goals. It’s hard to defend against pure dodgy luck goals.
Moving forward we showed flashes of brilliance, Jim and Tao teaming several times before the captain sent Tao through with a back-heel, Tao finishing delightfully from a tight angle. Wal and the captain teamed up for a set piece execution from the land of perfection but those two goals were all we could muster.
The table looks grim with Nans clawing the bottom but there was a lot of good to be taken from the night.

Captain Kurgen stared out through the thermo-tempered glass as his cruiser arrived to pick him up, he kissed his wife and child goodbye before bracing himself for the blast of the airlock and laucnching himself directly into the familiar surrounds of the cruiser cabin. Chas Brown locked in the coordinates and striker hit the launch button, sending the camrytron overdrive into warp and sending the crew deep into the outer Albert System. In the gloom up ahead the crew could already see Futsal, surrounded by its three moons and its gangs of marauding soldiers.
Striker put the cruiser into orbit and slowly the rest of the task-team arrived. Battle weary soldiers, excited by the prospect of a final showdown, a chance for supremacy. The pre-battle briefing was about to begin when the coach arrived in full battle dress with a lip smothered in respect. “I’ll be controlling things from up here” he whispered into his communicator, “but this time I’ll have company”. He threw back the door to show a Huge Covill looming in the dark, built in the likeness of a man, but with giant cannons for legs, standing 3 metres high he was an awesome sight. “He’ll stay with me” barked the coach, “we can’t let him loose just yet”.
The ground-force beacon crackled from the control deck, “skirmish below, you’ll be in orbit for a further 18mins”. The coach and captain looked grimly at each other, this was news they didn’t need, the tension was already high, it would only get higher.
“Feed the Grilla and load the Hannantron” ordered Kurgen. Dutifully the team opened the cage doors and threw chickens to the giant grilla, locked to its net, like a spider ready to pounce. Then Striker opened the pharmacutical box and measured out a cocktail strong enough to kill a thurmasauron and slipped it down the throat of the sleeping Hannantron, the giant beast barely stirred, simply nodding its head in appreciation.
The siren went and the battle started. And what a start. The enemy came out strong and ruthless, mercilessly knocking down barrier after barrier and sweeping in two successful raids before the crew had time to steady. Emotionally the damage was huge and it took desperate measures from strong men at the back and a vigilant Grilla to stop an avalanche. Corporal Chas Brown led the run into the danger zone bravely, forcing defensive switch and then switch again, forcing attack and counter attack. But the enemy were strong and again they swooped, angry and loud, screaming through the meek shields. Chas found fault in the speedie midwork of lance corporal Tao Weis who was caught off guard, his response was wild and erratic, losing control of his hover vehicle and sending friendly fire spewing in all directions, not a single crewman remained unscathed, and when he finally regained the wheel another attack had swept through.
The second half of the battle was a much more even affair, Corporal Weis and Striker teaming up delightfully and fruitfully, the elusive Wallmartin, with his ability to disappear, sneaking around the backdoor on several occasions and a solid defensive unit providing a steady platform. But the giant cannons of the hannantron and the Grilla seemed wayward, blasting forever skyward and making no impact on the offensive front.
The enemy locked down and the battle was lost.
A tired, sad and angry crew made their way back to the nutrient post South of the solar river and dined on parmagana. The coach bestowing his battle medal to the captain for duties in combat. It was small reward for a desperate day.
Futsal still glows in the evening sky, and on a clear night you can hear the pounding feet and cries of
“mark up nannas, jesus, what the fuck are you guys doing?”
Match Report 22/03/07
RH TW TH JH CG no MOM TH one goal
Captain Strikes another one past the 300m mark, Jim blows his load and the fireworks begin.
It’s lucky Gilly was there to document it or nobody would believe it. Finally we get proof of the previously mythical “skyrocket load” that has been a constant rumour in Nanna circles since the infamous shower scene after last seasons finals win. We believe you now Dan, he really puts on a spectacle, Justine is a lucky Lady.
For the record, Thomas hit the holden sign and the tractor twice, tao hit the tractor and the post and there was some really classy parking.

For the first time in Nanna history the triple crown has been taken, Most Games, Most Goals, Most Mom. Nanna upper management salutes the worthy winner, and takes time to reflect on a season that took the Nannas to Glory. Onward proud men, to “A” division and beyond, somewhere in the greek alphabet possibly, or even Roman numerals.
